We are going to have an Olympic weightlifting session at noon on Saturday. If you are doing the meet next weekend you need to be there. We are going to do some fine tuning and go over rules and strategies.

More news on the Paleo experiment:
In addition to people willing to eat a paleo diet for 2 months we are also looking for people "willing" to eat the same crap they have been eating to use as a control group. We are goint to attempt to document improvement in triglycerides, LDL, HDL, body fat, and strength and metabolic conditioning. So if you don't want to eat the food you can still participate in the experiment.

Damn this workout is going to suck! Why do I do this to myself, shit!
Oh by the way I hate rowing now, and forever!

I did the workout at 6am today. I'm a Crossfit virgin, so my time really blew. That said, I'm calling the cops on Tim for attempted murder.
I've the cold sweats here in my office from the shock.

I want to see Godzilla's food log, maybe I too could DL and Backsquat 500 on the Godzilla diet, bet he isn't drinking a gallon of milk a day. Must be the "supplements"

Ouch, there might be a little recruitment bias there. And a few violations of human participants ethics and standards. Let me translate this to behavioral scientist-ese. I think what Tim meant to say was:
Well-designed studies with control groups are critical to creating a body of research on human behavior and physiology. If you would like to participate in this experiment, you can participate in either the Paleo group, trying out the Paleo diet, or the control group, continuing to eat as you normally do. In both cases you will need to document your eating with a food log. It is your choice which group to participate in, and it is your choice whether you wish to participate at all. Anticipated benefits of participating include potential (but not guaranteed) improvements in health and fitness. Importantly, we as a community hope to gain an improved understanding of the effects of the Paleo diet on various physiological and performance measures. The more people that participate, the more reliable the results will be and the better understanding of nutrition and fitness we will be able to develop and share with the CrossFit community, and even the community at large. So I would strongly encourage everyone to consider participating, in either the Paleo group or the control group. Stay tuned for more information.
Today's WOD was awesome. Regan, don't be afraid! 16:14 with two 12s. I love kettlebells!

Sometimes, in designing experiments to solve engineering problems, we purposely try to "break" things as well as "fix" them because we can often learn as much. Perhaps we could find some people that would be willing to subsist on ding-dongs and donuts - ??? Now THAT would be interesting - a Paleo group, Control group, and a Ding-Dongs-Donuts group.
Seriously Amy - it's so cool that you're behind this. We need you!

Steve, spoken like a true engineer! Works fine for hardware or software, but we can't knowingly break people - it's a human participants ethics violation. :) Even worse than using the word willing in quotes when recruiting participants (Tim!!). But I think the Ding-Dongs-Donuts group certainly exists in the wild and we could use archival data...hmmm... I'm doing a lit review to see what's been done already, particularly in regards to cardiovascular health measures. So interesting! Thanks for finding me a new outlet upon which to unleash my nerdity.

I am impressed that we are having such an intelligent discussion about this. It elevates my overall appreciation of Crossfit participants, and our group in particular. Maybe we should include some level of cognitive or IQ testing before and after. If published, (which I don't recommend) that would give us a whole new level of items to joke about!

I have a FCF related side story to drag us off this thread of reality.
DONT tell Chuck Norris jokes on conference calls, no one gets them. I tried to cover a technical glitch with a CN joke, the one about the furniture in his house. NO ONE GOT it
the call was silent for 30 seconds until someone said I dont get it. The people on my call now think not only am I and IT geek but weird too...only 7 folks I have never met before.

Amy, the ding-dongs and beer diet is currently in human trials at the Godzilla Institute for Consumption, so we should be able to review the applicable data set at the end of the study!
I am all for logging my meals and 'other' consumption. I am not going Paleo, but I think we do pretty well for taking care of ourselves anyway, without too much thinking or guilt, so I'd be interested to see how that feeling stands up to scrutiny.
I did this today: hike up to the top of Eldora and ride down with Molly for turns and quality of powder encountered! It was a beautiful windy day on the hill, and wonderful to be back on the board again!
Have a great Halloween kids!

ha ha ha! Fraser! Yes! That was an awesome post! Made me laugh, a lot.
Amy, you please with today's posts? Enough for ya???
Oh, and you kicked ass on the workout. Excellent work!
Going to noon class today was fun (and somewhat painful) to watch the boys (Tim, Chuck, Mike, Regan and Sid) go at it with the 24's. Great job boys! You two youngsters ready to quit all your drinking yet? Or is CFyour self inflicted punishment for the night before?
